Our History
Oegema Turkey Farms is a third-generation family farm. In 1958, Sikko and Aultje Oegema immigrated from The Netherlands with their 7 children, hoping for a farm with room to grow. They purchased the present property in 1958, and started their farming venture in Canada, raising some hogs and growing tomatoes and sugar beets. In 1959, they began raising turkeys; and over the years, sons Heiko and Tom grew the turkey and cropping aspect of the business. In 2004, Heiko’s sons, Mike and Wayne, took over the turkey operation, combining years of experience with education in business and agriculture to continue growing the business.

The Turkey Shoppe
In 1992, we started The Turkey Shoppe, offering turkey products to consumers direct from the farm. Originally, Mike was the only employee, and the store was open 3 days a week. Over the years the business and product line has grown to the point we are now open 6 days a week with 7 full and part-time employees. The chapter of raising our own turkeys is closed but the connection with the turkey industry remains strong. Our weekly meat continues to be sourced from trusted, local industry partners, and they are on board to provide us with the finest fresh and frozen turkeys for The Turkey Shoppe brand.
When you visit the store, you will be impressed by the bright, clean facility and wonderful aromas. Each of our products is made with care and attention to detail. Our recipes have been tested to perfection to bring you products which are delicately seasoned, fragrant and moist. Once you try a few of the Turkey Shoppe’s delicious items you will want to include turkey on the menu all year around.
